Brown vs Board

1950's the time of struggles. There was a famous case going on called the Brown vs Board of Education, and it was about the white and black schools in America. The black schools were inferior to the white schools because they were not getting the funding from the schools. There was a third grade girl named Linda Brown, who was African American. She had to walk one mile to get to her school, when there was a school 7 blocks away, but it was a white school. Her father, Oliver Brown had decided to enroll her into the white school, but the principal had rejected her from the school. He then went to the NAACP, and they had taken the case to trial. With the case going to the supreme court, on October 1, 1951, and was part of some other trials that were going against the school segregation. The case was actually heard on December 9, 1952, but was failed to reach a decision. When there was another trial from December 7-8 1953, they had come up with a verdict in the end. The judges had made the decision that the schools were going to be no longer segregated. This did not change everything though. The court case was just about the schools, they had not changed the segregation in restaurants, restrooms and water fountains. Also they did not set a time date in which the public schools had to change by. But this was a huge step to Civil Rights Movement.

  1. I did not know that the case was actually heard on December 9, 1952, and they failed to come up with a decision for the case. I thought it was earlier. Thanks for the information. After this trial everything changed and like you said the judges decided that there will no longer be segregated schools.

  2. This was a good post randy. You did a good job really explaining what this event was really about and how it happened. My only critique would be to put a little more you into it so the reader can relate better, but overall it was well done. Ya done good kid

  3. I found a lot of the same information that you did. I didn't realize that even though schools were desegregated, the rest of the world was still discriminating. The generation currently in the newly desegregated schools were the generation who made the cultural and societal changes.

  4. Randy I really enjoyed reading your blog. I also read about how Brown v. Board of Education was named. Did you know that the case did not get justice until 1954? I thought that the schools had to be changed immediately but thanks to you I know that no date was set. Good job Randy.

  6. I wonder why it took so long for the Supreme Court to reach a verdict. Imagine waiting two whole years until a decision came out! Also, I did not realize that the Supreme Court did not set a date on which this ruling would take effect. That was a very good find, and your post was well written.
